Who we are
The Founders
Sena was built by Dani Sigmon and Max Sigmon out of our own experience as home birth clients. Our first two babies were born at birth centers with midwives, and our third was a home birth. Across those experiences, we saw firsthand the level of care, continuity, and trust that midwives provide, and we also began to notice where the systems supporting that care could be improved.
During our third pregnancy, we became more aware of how challenging it can be for existing systems to support communication and documentation in real-world midwifery care, especially outside of a desktop setting. Conversations during postpartum visits highlighted how much time and effort midwives spend working around tools that were not designed with their workflows in mind. It became clear there was an opportunity to build something more intuitive and better aligned with the realities of midwifery practice.
Sena grew from that moment, shaped by ongoing collaboration with midwives and grounded in real clinical workflows. Our goal has always been to build a platform that supports continuity of care, works well in real-world settings, and grows alongside the practices that rely on it.
Consulting Midwife
Cassandra Barker, CPM, CDEM, is a Certified Professional Midwife and the founder of Emerald Midwifery. Her path into midwifery began through her own experiences as a mother, where discovering out-of-hospital birth and midwifery care reshaped her understanding of pregnancy, birth, and women’s health. Those experiences sparked a lasting commitment to informed, respectful, and family-centered care.
Cassandra has extensive experience attending births in multiple roles, including doula, midwife’s assistant, student midwife, and licensed midwife. She completed her Direct Entry Midwifery training in 2023 and is a NARM-certified expert in normal pregnancy and out-of-hospital birth. She is also the founder of the Indiana Birth Coalition, a nonprofit focused on expanding access to midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth options, and is actively involved in the Indiana midwifery community.
Before entering midwifery, Cassandra spent 12 years in early childhood education, supporting infants, toddlers, and families in a variety of care settings. She brings this broad, family-centered perspective to her work with Sena, helping ensure the platform reflects real clinical workflows and the values of midwives providing continuity of care.
