ABOUT SENA
Built from experience.
Shaped by midwives.
Sena was built by a family who witnessed firsthand what exceptional midwifery care looks like — and noticed where the tools supporting that care were falling short.
WHERE SENA CAME FROM
A family.
Three births.
One question.
"What would software actually built for this look like?"
Sena was founded by Dani and Max Sigmon — not as software developers looking for a market, but as parents who had been inside the midwifery care experience and paid close attention.
Their first two children were born at birth centers. Their third was a home birth. Across those births, they saw what midwifery care at its best looks like: continuity, trust, presence, and an extraordinary level of skill and attention.
They also began to see where the systems supporting that care were falling short. During their third pregnancy, conversations with their midwife made it clear how much time was being spent working around tools that weren't designed for real midwifery workflows — especially outside of a desktop, especially in the field.
After the birth, that observation became a question: what would software actually built for this look like? Sena is the answer they created. Built from the beginning around the way midwives work: in homes, at births, with variations — with continuity of care at the center of everything.
THE TEAM
The people behind Sena.
Dani Sigmon
Co-Founder
Dani brings operational vision and a deep personal connection to the midwifery world to her role at Sena. As a mother who experienced home birth firsthand, she understands what it means to be on the receiving end of exceptional midwifery care — and what it means to midwives to have administrative support that relieves the intensity of their work.
Max Sigmon
Co-Founder
Max leads the technical development of Sena with a focus on building software that actually gets used. His approach to product design is rooted in the belief that a tool midwives reach for should feel as natural as the care they provide — and that good software gets out of the way.
Cassandra Barker, CPM, CDEM
Consulting Midwife
Cassandra has been at the center of Sena's clinical development from the beginning. As a Certified Professional Midwife, founder of Emerald Midwifery, and founder of the Indiana Birth Coalition, she brings the full arc of midwifery experience to her work with Sena — from doula and assistant, through student midwife, to licensed provider.
Her path into midwifery began through her own birth experiences, and she has carried that family-centered perspective into everything she does. Cassandra's role at Sena is to make sure the platform reflects how midwives actually practice.
Every workflow, every charting template, every feature has been shaped by her clinical expertise and her deep commitment to expanding access to midwifery care.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
The principles behind
every decision we make.
Built for midwives, by people who care
Every feature in Sena exists because a midwife needed it. We don't adapt. We build from the ground up, around real workflows and real scope of practice.
Software should get out of your way
An EHR you dread using is an EHR you won't use well. Sena is designed to be intuitive enough that you forget it's software — and just chart.
Responsive to the people using it
Sena grows through the feedback of the midwives using it. New features, improvements, and refinements come directly from the community we serve.
